Tommy Gonzalez (Brad Loper/DMN)

Avi Selk reports:

Tommy Gonzalez stepped down Tuesday after seven years as Irving city manager.

Steve McCullough, who ran City Hall before Gonzalez was hired, is expected to move back into his old office today. The City Council unanimously gave him a six-month contract to be interim city manager while it seeks a permanent replacement for Gonzalez.

“There’s no honeymoon,” McCullough laughed. He’ll have just two days to prepare for a meeting at which Irving’s often argumentative City Council plans to vote on a divisive consulting contract.

Gonzalez will remain an advisor to McCullough until the end of the year.
